France plans to ban single-use e-cigarettes as part of a national plan to combat smoking, as the country’s prime minister said today, Sunday.

Elizabeth Bourne told RTL television that the government “will soon present a new national plan to combat smoking and, in particular, the ban on disposable e-cigarettes, the famous ‘vapes’ that give young people bad habits”.

The French government is putting the final touches to its 2024 budget with a wider plan to reduce smoking, which Bourne pointed out was the cause of 75,000 deaths a year in the country.

He said the plan does not include another increase in the tax on cigarettes, adding: “But that does not mean we are not vigilant about tobacco consumption.”

Many European countries are also considering banning them. Online sales are banned in Belgium while in Germany the government has banned flavored e-cigarettes.
