The uranium enrichment slowdown could serve as another sign that Tehran is seeking to ease tensions with America after years of conflict
Iran has slowed its uranium enrichment to near-weapons-grade levels, according to a report by the United Nations nuclear watchdog, cited by the Associated Press.
The confidential report comes as Iran and the United States negotiate a prisoner swap and the release of billions of dollars in Iranian assets frozen in South Korea. A slowdown in uranium enrichment could serve as another sign that Tehran is seeking to ease tensions with America after years of conflict following the collapse of its 2015 nuclear deal with world powers.
The International Atomic Energy Agency report said Iran has 121.6 kilograms (268 lb) of uranium enriched to 60%, a much slower growth than in previous counts. An IAEA report in May put the 60% uranium stockpile at just over 114 kg (250 lb). He weighed 87.5 kg (192 lb) in February.
The IAEA director general has warned that Tehran has enough enriched uranium for “several” nuclear bombs if it chooses to build them.
