The president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky argued today that his country’s allies eased the sanctions they had imposed on Russia and called for a new effort to impose further punitive measures on Moscow.

“And (we see) active Russian efforts to evade sanctions,” he added.

Zelensky said pressure on Moscow should be maintained, focusing on Russia’s energy sector, its access to microelectronics and the financial system.

“There are three priorities: more sanctions on Russia’s energy sector, real restrictions on chips and microelectronics in general going to terrorists, and continuing to block the financial sector,” he said. “The aggressive tactics of sanctions must be resumed,” he insisted.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleh Nikolenko said earlier that Kiev rejects any suggestion of easing sanctions against Russia as part of efforts to restore the Black Sea grain export agreement. “Easing sanctions in exchange for restoring the grain deal would be a victory for Russian blackmail and an invitation to Moscow for new blackmail,” he wrote on Facebook.
