Boris Johnson he received a hero’s welcome as he returned to Ukraine, with crowds cheering and choirs singing for him. Ukrainians seem to adore the former Prime Minister of Great Britain – not by chance – as he was one of their staunchest supporters in his attempt to prevent Russia’s violent invasion of the country.

And that popularity is evident from the moment he steps out of his car as seen in videos posted on social media. Ukrainian citizens applaud him as he walks through the city center, while a child dodges his bodyguards to hand him a small flag. Mr Johnson received yet another award in the country he has championed since his prime ministership.

At a ceremony in Lviv, the former prime minister was named a doctor of the city’s Ivan Franko National University. Mr Johnson is pictured wearing a cap and academic cap and holding a bouquet of flowers as he receives the title of ‘Doctor Honoris Causa’ from the university.

The former Conservative leader won cheers and applause as he greeted his fans in central Lviv. He already holds the country’s highest award for foreign nationals – the Ukrainian “Order of Freedom”, which he received during his last visit to Kiev before resigning as prime minister last year.
