Ukraine announced today that it shot down 17 of 22 Russian drones that they attacked its territory during the night and that a child was killed in southern Ukraine by artillery fire.

A six-year-old boy was killed and four others, including his 13-year-old brother, were injured by Russian shelling in the village of Novodmitrifka in the Kherson region, the Office of the Ukrainian Prosecutor General announced.

“Enemy shells hit a private house and its plot,” according to the public prosecutor’s announcement on the Telegram platform.

In addition, the Ukrainian Air Force announced that it shot down drones in regions of southern and northern Ukraine.

“On the night of September 14, 2023, from 9 p.m. until 2:30 a.m., the Russian invaders attacked Ukraine with groups of Shahid-136/131 (unmanned aerial vehicles) from three directions,” he said in a Telegram post.

The governor of Dnipropetrovsk region, Serhii Lysak, said three drones were over the area, causing damage to buildings. Another part of the district was hit overnight by artillery and rockets, he said.

While it initially tried to pound Ukrainian targets with missiles, Russia this year has increasingly turned to the Shahid, cheap Iranian kamikaze drones that are more expendable and can confuse air defenses with their smaller size and low speed .
