A trial date for Trump has not yet been set, and the judge hinted that the trials of other co-defendants may be separated.
Donald Trump’s election-rigging trial in Georgia will not begin in October, a judge announced today, making a ruling that will allow the former president to stand trial after his two former lawyers.
Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee cited technical problems and a number of outstanding legal issues to separate the trial of attorneys Kenneth Chisebro and Sidney Powell from that of Trump and 16 other defendants in the same case.
A trial date for Trump has not yet been set, and the judge hinted that the trials of other co-defendants may be separated.
McAfee has previously expressed doubts about whether all 19 defendants should be tried together.
Trump and the other defendants were indicted in August on charges of conspiring to pressure Georgia state officials to overturn Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential victory. All have pleaded not guilty.
The two lawyers had asked for the case to be heard quickly and their trial date was set for October 23. Trump and other defendants argued that such a tight schedule did not give them enough time to prepare their defense.
