Regarding the Cyprus issue, President Biden reaffirmed the strong commitment of the US to find a comprehensive settlement based on a bi-zonal and bi-communal federation, which will lead to the reunification of the country.
In an official ceremony that took place on Friday afternoon at the White House, the new ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the USA, Evangelos Savvas, presented his credentials to the President of the United States, Joe Biden.
In his written opposition, the American President characterized the progress observed in bilateral relations with the Republic of Cyprus as historic. In fact, he alluded to the personal friendship that connects him with Cyprus and noted with particular satisfaction the fact that the two countries wish to jointly exploit the emerging opportunities for close cooperation on a number of issues.

For his part, Evangelos Savvas conveyed the heartfelt greetings of President Nikos Christodoulidis to Joe Biden and praised the high level to which bilateral relations have risen in recent years. At this point, he made special reference to the cooperation that exists in the fields of defense and security, energy, technology and sciences, cultural heritage, as well as at the level of civil society.
In this light, the Cypriot ambassador pointed out that the bilateral cooperation of the Republic of Cyprus with the USA promotes stability and prosperity in the Southeast Mediterranean region. Referring to the Cyprus issue, Mr. Savvas spoke of the initiative of the President of the Republic for the resumption of negotiations. At the same time, he thanked President Biden both for the support of this initiative and for the commitment of the US to the agreed framework for resolving the Cyprus problem, which is determined by the resolutions of the UN Security Council.
Finally, Evangelos Savvas underlined the commitment of the Cypriot government to the further substantial strengthening of bilateral relations, with the aim of consolidating a strategic partnership between the USA and the Republic of Cyprus.
