The 53-year-old and his 19-year-old son went missing on August 27 when their sailboat capsized between the islands of Minorca and Majorca
Spanish authorities announced today that they had identified the bodies of two Germans who were missing after a storm in late August off the Balearic Islands, while the search for two Argentines who disappeared on the same day had ended.
A representative of the civil protection service told AFP today that these two bodies – found, according to the press, south-east of the island of Mallorca on September 4 and 5 – were of a 53-year-old and his 19-year-old sonwho had disappeared on August 27.
These two Germans traveled by sailboat between the islands of Minorca and Majorca when they were shipwrecked.
Two young Argentines, surfing off the coast of Malaga in southern Spain, also disappeared that day as strong winds and heavy rain battered Spanish shores in the Mediterranean.
Spain’s maritime rescue service said in a press release today that it had ended its search for them after spending “15 hours daily” scanning an area “over 9,000 square meters” using sea and air.
They were reported missing by a friend and a search began on August 28.
A week after these four disappearances, Spain was hit by torrential rains that left six people dead in the central part of the country.
