The White House, the official residence of the President of the United States, once again has a cat as a resident. A cat, to be exact.
First Lady Jill Biden, wife of Democrat Joe Biden, introduced Willow on Friday (28).
The charming feline with green eyes and a striped coat is two years old. The name is in honor of Jill’s hometown of Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, according to Michael LaRosa, a spokesman for the first lady.
The fates of the first lady and the pussy crossed in 2020, during the presidential campaign of Joe.
The kitten, still a puppy, lived on a farm in Pennsylvania and jumped on stage during a speech by Jill.
“Seeing the immediate connection between them, the ranch owner knew Willow belonged to Dr. Biden,” LaRosa said.
During this time, the Biden family arranged for the adoption. In April of last year, Jill even told the press that she had a kitten “waiting to arrive”.
“Willow is settling into the White House with her favorite toys, treats and lots of room to sniff and explore,” LaRosa said.
The cat now keeps company for Commander, a German shepherd puppy that Joe Biden introduced in December.
No cats have lived in the White House for 13 years, since India, George W. Bush’s kitten, died in 2009.
Before that, Bill Clinton also had his cat, Socks, living with his family at the official residence. The black and white fur cat, who looked like he wore socks, became famous for following in his tutor’s footsteps during interviews with journalists at the White House.
