Russia struck the Kremenchuk oil refinery in Ukraine’s central Poltava region during an overnight drone strike that caused a fire, Governor Dmytro Lunin said today.

Work at the refinery has temporarily stopped, the governor said via the Telegram platform, adding that there were no reports of casualties.

“Last night, the Russians repeatedly attacked the Poltava region. Our air defense system did a good job against enemy UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles),” he said.

The refinery has been repeatedly attacked by Russia since last year when Russian forces invaded Ukraine.

Ukraine’s air defense systems shot down 17 of 24 drones launched by Russia overnight against Ukraine, the Ukrainian armed forces announced.

Reuters notes that it was unable to confirm the information from an independent source.
