The prime minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu discussed today with the president of the USA Joe Biden the possibility of a “historic peace agreement” with Saudi Arabiaat the meeting the two leaders had on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
“I believe that under your auspices, Mr. President, we can forge a historic peace between Israel and Saudi Arabia,” Netanyahu said, noting that such an agreement would mark “the reconciliation of the Islamic world with the Jewish state.”
Biden, who, breaking a tradition followed for decades by his predecessors, has yet to receive the prime minister of Israel in White Housesaid she “hopes” to see him in Washington before the end of the year.
In brief remarks at the start of their much-anticipated meeting, he also said they would discuss “difficult issues” such as “democratic values” and the “balance of powers”. Biden was clearly referring to the controversial reform of the judicial system that the Israeli government has initiated. The American president also said that they will discuss the two-state solution for the Middle Eastern.
