Several people were injured on Friday night when two trains collided at a station in northern Scotland, a Police Scotland spokesman said.

“Around 19:00 [σ.σ. τοπική ώρα· στις 21:00 ώρα Ελλάδας] (…) we were alerted to a collision between two trains at Aviemore station,” in the Highlands region, the spokesman explained.

Two people were taken to a nearby hospital, while “a number of others were treated at the scene,” he added.

The accident happened on a “private (railway), next to the main (railway),” rail company ScotRail clarified via X (formerly Twitter), warning customers that traffic was experiencing problems, which were later overcome.

According to British media, one of the two trains involved in the collision was the historic Flying Scotsman train, with a steam engine that was restored only last year.

One of the two trains was stopped at the time of the collision.
