by

Two police officers, a 24-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man, were shot and killed cold-bloodedly by poachers in the early morning hours in the Kuzel area of the Rhineland-Palatinate. The perpetrators are escaping arrest, while an extensive investigation is underway in the wider area.

According to Kaiserslautern police, during a scheduled patrol, the two police officers stopped a car for inspection at 04:20. They even informed their center about it, stating that they found illegal prey in the luggage area of the vehicle. Shortly afterwards, police officers were heard on the radio shouting “they are shooting at us, they are shooting at us!”.

The aid that rushed to the spot found the young woman, still a student at the Police School, already dead, while the man expired shortly after.

Police have launched a manhunt to locate the perpetrators, and have cordoned off a large area between the Rhineland-Palatinate and neighboring Saarland. According to the BILD newspaper, there was no information either about the vehicle of the perpetrators or about the direction in which they escaped, except for some traces on the road. Authorities are still seeking the help of any eyewitnesses.
