Madeline case: The main suspect worked as a security guard at the resort where he disappeared

by

The main suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann “worked repeatedly” at the resort where she disappeared in 2007, according to a documentary.

A new documentary by German television channel SAT.1 has revealed that convicted rapist Christian Brueckner, 44, was “regularly doing repair work” as a conservator at the Ocean Club in Praia da Luz, where the three-year-old disappeared almost 15 years ago.

The data gathered for the project show that Brueckner is well acquainted with the resort in the Algarve, Portugal and the surrounding areas.

New cell phone analysis also showed that Brueckner’s cell phone was “no more than five minutes away” from the Ocean Club when the baby girl disappeared.

The 44-year-old told investigative documentary journalist Jutta Rabe that he used his “hit hippy van”, in which he lived at the time, to distribute drugs.

In the exchange of letters, he insisted on his innocence, admitting that he was a drug dealer and said that he was never caught by the police because he “followed some basic principles”.

“Where possible, I only drive during the day so that my crashed hippie bus does not get distracted, I only drive on the roads I needed and, most importantly, I never call the police.

He added that the idea that he was the one who kidnapped Madeleine was “absurd … like starting a nuclear war or slaughtering a chicken”.

He even said that he finds no reason to comment on the accusations made by the Braunschweig prosecutor’s office, noting that “in theory, he could sit and relax and just wait for the findings”.

Police have publicly named him as the main suspect in the 2020 investigation, and earlier in the investigation, he allegedly had a half-hour phone call near the apartment where McCann’s stayed.

German prosecutors remain convinced he was responsible for the young man’s disappearance but despite an intensive investigation have not issued any charges.

He also allegedly admitted to kidnapping Madeline’s friend – and the German team of investigators, led by Attorney General Christian Walters, said they were convinced he had killed the three-year-old.

German television channel SAT.1 also said it had seen old logs of conversations between Brueckner and a convicted sex offender in 2013.

The man, who was spotted at his home in southern Germany, where he runs a funeral home, was a “regular customer” of Brueckner and “exchanged material” between them.

In the conversation, Brueckner is said to have written about his pedophile fantasies, as he wanted to “capture something small and use it for days, do it.”

He is currently being held in a high-security prison in Oldenburg, near Bremen, in northwestern Germany, and is serving a seven-year sentence for raping a 73-year-old American pensioner at her home in Praia da Luz in 2005.

German prosecutor Walters said last year that he was 100% sure Brickner was responsible, but acknowledged that all the information gathered so far was indirect.

“If we had a video of the act or a photo of the dead Madeleine with Brueckner on camera, we should not have made a public appeal. “But we have only indirect evidence,” he said.

He also said that prosecutors have no evidence that Madeleine is dead, they have no idea how she died and no evidence linking Brueckner to her alleged murder.

“We do not have a body and DNA, but we have other elements. Based on the data we have, it does not lead to another conclusion.

“I can not tell you on what basis we assume she is dead. “There is no hope that she is alive.”
