About 500 people, according to police, also took part in a demonstration in Place Saint-Léonard in Liege, waving Palestinian flags.
Hundreds of pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered this afternoon in Saint-Gilles in Brussels and Liège.
The demonstration in Brussels was not authorized, but neither was it banned, with the mayor giving clear instructions on what would not be tolerated, such as hate messages, or anti-Semitic behavior or slogans. In this case, the police at the scene were ready to intervene immediately, Belgian media reports.

Powerful crowd in St Gilles, Brussels today in support of the #Palestinians – Many Politicians in #EU may support the Colonialists + Apartheid State of #Israel in their Genocidal Mission against the Palestinians but most people in Europe stand by the Oppressed Palestinians…. pic.twitter.com/7ubNNjSQLk

The call for the demonstration, broadcast on social networks since yesterday Saturday, came from the solidarity network with Palestinian prisoners, “Samidoun”. Secours Rouge, a far-left organization, also called for demonstrations in Brussels’ St Gilles.
“The Palestinian people need our unconditional support. He needs to be able to hear our voice so he doesn’t feel alone in this struggle,” one man told the crowd. “People from North Africa, from the Congo, with an immigrant background and present here, know what colonialism and apartheid are. If the European Union is on Israel’s side, then we support the Palestinian people. We are proud to support the Palestinian opposition and will never stop reiterating that Palestinians have a right to freedom from fascism, Zionism and occupation,” said another speaker, adding that “October 7 marks the beginning of a new Palestinian revolution which will lead to the liberation of Palestine».
