Biden himself had said this week that he planned to ask lawmakers to approve an “unprecedented package of support for Israel’s defense
US President Joe Biden is set to ask for around $100 billion in supplementary aid this week for national security, which will include $40 billion in aid to Israel, Taiwan and the US southern border, and about $60 billion in aid to Ukraine, a senior administration official told CNN.
Biden himself had said this week that he planned to ask lawmakers to approve a “an unprecedented support package for Israel’s defense.”
The request for aid to Israel as part of the supplemental package comes after Biden traveled to Israel to express US support.
According to officials told CNN, Biden wanted to finalize a decision on how much to ask for Israel by meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his war cabinet to get a detailed picture of the country’s defense needs.
Regarding aid to Ukraine, additional funding was a top priority for the government.
