Chaos has been caused in the UK by Storm Babette, which is battering the country with heavy rain, flooding and gale-force winds.

Two people have so far died according to the DailyMail as the storm has passed through Scotland and is expected to hit many areas in northern and central England, and northern Wales by tomorrow morning.

In Yorkshire, roads have been turned into rivers while at Leeds Bradford Airport there was a near-air tragedy when a Boeing 737 landed abnormally.

Her plane Tui had taken off from the Corfu and was attempting to land at the airport when – due to strong winds and a slippery runway – it ran off the runway and almost crashed into the grass outside the runway.

The British Met Office has warned that some communities could be cut off for days due to severe flooding caused by Storm Babette.

Wind gusts of nearly 100 km/h are expected today with a risk of very high waves in coastal areas.

Chaos in Ireland too

In Ireland, hundreds of buildings were flooded in Cork (south), where city officials said the flooding was unprecedented in at least 30 years. Not far from there, the army was deployed to evacuate residents and a hospital in the town of Middleton.
