Anti-Semitic and Islamophobic actions skyrocketed in London after the start of Israel’s deadly conflict with Hamas, Scotland Yard announced today.

Despite the increased police presence, we have seen a significant rise (in the number of hate crimes) in London.” with 218 punishable anti-Semitic actions between October 1 and 18. In the corresponding period last year, only 15 were recorded, the police clarified.

These are actions against individuals or groups, in person or online, or even for property damage. To date, 21 people have been arrested for hate crimes. Among them is a man who was allegedly destroying photographs of missing Israelis. Another has been arrested on suspicion of dozens of Islamophobic graffiti that appeared on bus stops in south-west London.

Since the start of the war, police have been deployed around schools and places of worship in London’s Jewish and Muslim communities. A demonstration in support of the Palestinians is planned for tomorrow Saturday.
