The Islamists of Hamas clashed with Israeli forces inside Gaza, the Al-Qassam Brigades, the Palestinian organization’s military wing on Sunday.

Apparently, this is one of the first skirmishes between the two sides inside the strip since the war broke out on October 7, CNN reports.

Hamas claims its fighters destroyed two Israeli military bulldozers and a tank in ambush, forcing Israeli troops to retreat into Israel without their vehicles.

“The soldiers of the Zionist force who were ambushed by Khan Yunis left their vehicles and fled east of the fence on foot,” Al-Qassam Brigades said on social media.

What the IDF reports

The Israel Defense Forces said only that “shots were fired at IDF soldiers operating west of the Gaza Strip security fence, in the Kisufim area.”

“An IDF tank hit the core of the terrorists who fired at the soldiers,” the IDF added.

Kibbutz Kisufim, in Israel, is located east of Khan Yunis, in Gaza.

The IDF confirmed to CNN by phone that its troops were operating inside Gaza during the incident.
