The doctors at Gaza Strip They say dwindling fuel supplies due to Israel’s siege of Gaza risk imminent death dozens of premature babies which are in incubators, the Associated Press points out.

The news agency reports that the UN health agency estimates that 130 premature babies are at ‘serious risk’while some hospitals say they are just hours away from running out of generator fuel.

Israel banned fuel transit to Gaza for fear of ending up in the hands of Hamas. The UN agency responsible for the Palestinians says it has only three days of fuel reserves to meet critical needs.

Once the generators stop, the director of al-Aqsa Hospital in the central Gaza Strip, Iyad Abu Zahar, fears that babies in the neonatal ward, who cannot breathe on their own, will die.

“Our responsibility is huge”he said.

At least seven of the nearly 30 hospitals in Gaza were forced to close due to damage sustained by the Israeli bombardment barrage and due to shortages of water and other medical supplies. Doctors in hospitals point out that they are on the brink.
