The Vatican announcement succinctly states that “the Holy Father has accepted the resignation” of Gregors Kazak from the diocese of Sosnowiec
The Vatican announced today the resignation of a Polish bishop, the head of one of its dioceses southern Poland which recently attracted local media attention because a priest organized an… orgy in his parish.
His announcement Vatican states laconically that “the Holy Father accepted his resignation”. Gregors Kazak from the diocese of Sosnowiecwithout explaining the reasons.
Polish media, however, recalled the scandal that broke out in September in Dobrova Gornica, a parish in the diocese of Sosnowiec, where one of the priests organized an orgy, inviting a prostitute. The case came to light because the guest passed out during the evening and the rest of the participants had to call the first aid.
“Father Thomas Z. and two laymen committed a very serious violation of moral values, which the Church does not tolerate and strongly condemns. This incident is a scandal for the faithful and the public outcry is justified,” the diocese’s website states.
Bishop Kazak, announcing his resignation, asked the faithful to “forgive” him for his “human weaknesses”.
Polish media also recalled two earlier scandals in the same diocese. In the first case, the director of a seminary was arrested in a gay club, while in the second, a 46-year-old priest killed a deacon, 20 years his junior, and then committed suicide by falling onto the train tracks.
Kazak was ordained a bishop in 1989 and has been head of the diocese of Sosnowiec since 2009.
