No progress was made in the separate meetings held yesterday in Brussels by the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic and the Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti with the leadership of the EU and leaders of major European countries.

“Vucic and Kurti were not ready to agree to a new European proposal for the Union of Municipalities with a Serbian majority without mutual conditions. We will continue to work towards an agreement. But today, unfortunately, this was not possible,” said the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell.

The president of Serbia and the prime minister of Kosovo had a separate meetingon the sidelines of the EU summit, with European Council President Charles Michel, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

Aleksandar Vucic said after the meeting that he is willing to accept the agreement on the establishment of municipalities with a Serb majority but not provisions that indicate de jure or de facto recognition of Kosovo’s independence.

“I am ready to sign whatever you want, from everything we have to fulfill, except Kosovo’s entry into the UN, the issue of recognizing Kosovo’s independence and territorial integrity. These, no, everything else – yes, “said the president of Serbia.

On the other hand, the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, set as a condition to accept the recommendation of the Union of Serbian Municipalities to sign a comprehensive agreement for the normalization of relations on the basis of the European proposal as presented last March in Ohrid. In the announcement of the government of Kosovo, it is mentioned that Aleksandar Vucic refused to sign such an agreement.
