Hundreds of buildings ‘totally destroyed’ in the Gaza Strip during the shelling launched by Israel during the night, as the Palestinian Civil Defense agency reported today.

“Hundreds of buildings and houses were completely destroyed and thousands of other accommodations were damaged,” Mahmoud Basal, the spokesman for the Civil Defense agency in Gaza, a Palestinian territory controlled by Hamas, told AFP.

Heavy shelling overnight “changed the landscape in Gaza and the governorates of the north,” he added.

According to several testimonies gathered by AFP, the heaviest nighttime Israeli shelling was concentrated in the zones around two hospitals, al-Sifah in Gaza City and the so-called “Indonesian” hospital, so called because it was built with donations from Indonesia, in the Jambaliya sector, further north.

The raids destroyed many buildings and opened huge craters in completely destroyed streets, according to AFP.
