Fire broke out at Afipsky oil refinery in Russia’s Krasnodar region, quickly extinguished
Fire that broke out in the early hours today at the Afipski oil refineryin Russia’s Krasnodar region, was quickly extinguished, regional security emergency response authorities said, following social media reports of loud explosions at the refinery.
“There were no casualties, no damage was caused to infrastructure and there is no threat to the business or the residents of the nearby settlements”, said the emergency management authority of the Krasnodar region on the Black Sea coast in a post on the Telegram messaging app, without providing information on the cause of the fire
Baza and Shot, two Russian news websites that have networks of sources in the security services, said the fire at the refinery, which is located 80 kilometers east of the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk, one of Russia’s most important oil export gateways, was caused by drone attack.
Reuters was unable to independently verify this information.
Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry announced, without going into details, that its air defense systems they destroyed 36 drones, which had been launched by Ukraine, over the Black Sea and in the northwestern part of the Crimean peninsula, which Russia annexed from Ukraine in 2014.
Ukraine has not yet commented on the news. But Kiev has increasingly sought to undermine Russia’s war efforts with frequent drone and sabotage attacks on Russia’s military and transport infrastructure far from the front.
