Four Katyusha-type rockets were fired today against the Ain al-Assad base in western Iraq, where US soldiers and members of the international coalition are stationed, as reported by the Reuters news agency, citing security officials.

So far there are no reports of casualties or significant material damage at the airbase located in Anbar province.

Since the war between Israel and Hamas broke out, there has been an increase in attacks against US forces in Iraq and Syria.

In previous years, bases hosting international coalition troops were often targeted by rocket and drone attacks. However, by the summer of 2022 these attacks had subsided. Such attacks were usually not followed by a claim of responsibility. The US blamed organizations close to Tehran.

About 2,500 Americans and another 1,000 military personnel from member countries of the international coalition are currently stationed at three bases of the Iraqi armed forces.
