The student allegedly said he would go to university armed with an automatic rifle
A New York State student is expected to be arraigned today for threatening fellow Jewish students online, against the background of the increase in anti-Semitic and racist actions on the occasion of the war in the Middle East.
Many US officials have denounced anti-Semitic and Islamophobic actions in the US following the October 7 Hamas attacks on Israel and Israeli shelling of the Gaza Strip.
Patrick Dye, 21, a student at Cornell University in New York, was arrested Tuesday on charges of making threats over the Internet “to kill or injure” Jews, according to US authorities. If found guilty he could be sentenced to 5 years in prison. Among other things, he reportedly said he would go to university armed with an automatic rifle and “kill all the Jewish pigs.” He also threatened to “stab and cut the throats of all the Jews in the university, to rape and throw off the cliff all the Jewish women and behead all their babies.”
US judicial authorities did not specify whether the student’s threats were related to the war in the Middle East.
Cornell University said on Sunday that police were investigating “anti-Semitic threats” online, while on Monday the White House warned of an “alarming increase” in anti-Semitic acts at schools and universities, without giving exact numbers.
