The United States today denounced Israeli settler violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, saying it was “incredibly destabilizing” and urged Israel to crack down on it.

Settler attacks in the West Bank are “incredibly destabilizing and counterproductive to Israel’s long-term security, in addition to being, of course, extremely damaging to Palestinians living in the West Bank,” US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller told reporters.

“We sent them a very clear message: this is unacceptable, it must stop and those responsible must be held accountable,” Miller said, referring to talks between the US and the Israeli government.

A Palestinian territory occupied by Israel since 1967, the West Bank has been plagued by an escalation of violence since war broke out between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip following a deadly Oct. 7 attack by Islamist Hamas on Israeli soil. .

The West Bank is the site of many Israeli military operations, Israeli settler violence against the Palestinian people, and Palestinian attacks against Jewish settlements and Israeli forces.

More than 125 Palestinians have been killed in the occupied West Bank by Israeli soldiers or settlers since October 7, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
