The US Secretary of State had a short meeting with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulidis and Foreign Minister Constantinos Kobo, whom he thanked for Cyprus’s assistance in removing prisoners released from Israel after the Hamas attack.

The crisis in the Middle East and the creation of a maritime humanitarian corridor were at the center of the brief discussion between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Anthony Blinken and the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides.

According to a post by the Government Representative, Constantinos Letympiotis, on the X platform (formerly Twitter), the President of the Republic held a meeting today with the US Secretary of State, as part of his contacts in the region. The main topic of discussion at the meeting was “the crisis in our region as it develops and the initiative of the Republic of Cyprus regarding the creation of a maritime humanitarian corridor for the provision of humanitarian aid through Cyprus with a final destination in Gaza”, the government representative states in his post .

The plane carrying the American Secretary of State had landed in Larnaca. Earlier, during his visit to an inauguration in a village in Nicosia, President Nikos Christodoulidis had stated that he would go to Larnaca for an extraordinary visit to the country, “within the context of the efforts that our country has undertaken in relation to the crisis in the region us”.
