“I wish Filippo to live many years to always remember what he did” said the father of the deceased Julia Cechetin
The Italian Minister of Education Filippo Valnitara has decided that tomorrow a minute of silence will be observed in all schools in Italy, to honor the memory of the late Julia Cecchetin, who was murdered by her ex-fiancé Filippo Touretta.
The perpetrator was arrested in Germany yesterday morning and is expected to be extradited to Italy within the next week.
In the meantime, the Italian government has decided that Giulia will receive her degree posthumously. Her life was taken just two days before she defended her thesis as a civil engineer. A special ceremony for the awarding of the diploma “in memory” is to be organized soon.
The girl’s father, after asking all women who are victims of violence to immediately report what is happening without fear, added that “he cannot hate Philip, but he wants to live as long as possible, to always remember what he did.” .
The young man, 21, will have to face the charge of premeditated murder, which is punishable by a life sentence.
Last night, thousands of people took part in a solidarity march in Vigonovo, northeastern Italy. It is the town where Julia grew up, in which everyone remembers her as a smiling, but also very dynamic girl.
At the end of the march, some journalists also spotted the perpetrator’s parents, who, as they said, “when they find the courage, they will go meet Julia’s father and mother”.
