The United States is transporting thousands of troops to Eastern Europe as NATO allies step up pressure on Russia to halt its military build-up around Ukraine.
American troops arrived in Poland on Saturday, the first US aid to NATO allies in Eastern Europe, amid the build-up of Russian troops on the border with Ukraine.
A small plane carrying, according to a Polish military source, personnel of the US chain of command, landed at Rzeszow-Jasionka airport, part of a military base in southeastern Poland. as preparations continued at the base, which is located near the Polish-Ukrainian border.
The first US troops arrived in the German city of Wiesbaden on Friday amid escalating tensions in Ukraine.
The Kremlin, meanwhile, accuses the United States of “sparking tensions” on the old continent with the deployment of US forces in Eastern Europe. About 70,000 US troops are stationed in Europe.
In the opposing camp, two Russian bombers capable of carrying and carrying nuclear weapons flew over Belarusian airspace for more than four hours.
