The Israeli army withdrew today from Gaza’s Al-Shifa hospital, on the first day of a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, the Islamist group’s health ministry said.

Contacted by Agence France-Presse, the army has not yet commented on the matter.

On the first day of the Israeli raids against the hospital, 2,300 sick, wounded, medical and nursing staff were there, according to the UN. After the evacuations, “around 100 patients and medical staff remain in Al Shifa“, said Christian Lindmeier, spokesman for the World Health Organization.

They are in facilities where “the central generator was destroyed, as well as many buildings, courtyards and walls,” according to Hamas Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Kindreh.

“We are working on additional hospital evacuations,” Lidmeier added, while Israeli operations have been focused in recent days on another hospital in the northern Gaza Strip, the Indonesian hospital.

The last time convoy left Al Shifa with “73 patients and seriously injured, 18 patients undergoing hemodialysis, 26 hemiplegic or paraplegic patients, 8 patients with chronic diseases, two patients hospitalized in the ICU and 19 patients in a wheelchair,” the WHO said.
