In a televised interview, Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay targeted Kastelorizo and Oinousses, implicitly but clearly stating that proximity to Turkey is a reason why these islands do not have a continental shelf.
“We had mentioned Kastelorizo. We are talking about a tiny island. It is 580 km from the mainland of Greece. While from Turkey it is, I think, about 4 miles. At the same time, Fuat Oktay raised the issue of the “gray zones”, noting that Greece must stop both the militarization and the settlement of people on the islands.
“Greece must stop these attitudes, stop this disturbed behavior. This includes the issue of settling people on islands, as well as the militarization of islands. If Greece thinks that it will win with accomplishments, leaving the issues over time, it will see that it will not win. “Turkey has taken the necessary steps, it has seen the game and will do what it has to do,” he said.
