Tamimi was arrested last November for allegedly inciting violence on social media after the October 7 attack by Hamas
Activist Ahed Tamimi is reportedly among 50 Palestinian prisoners on a list to be released from Israeli prisons.
Another 50 Palestinian prisoners and detainees are expected to be freed after the hostage exchange and ceasefire deal is extended.
The 22-year-old’s name is reportedly on the list he published Israel’s Justice Ministry on Tuesday, has been a symbol of resistance against Israeli occupation, the Guardian reports, since she was about 11 years old.
Tamimi was sentenced to eight months in prison for tasing an Israeli soldier in 2017. The incident made headlines and Tamimi gained global fame.
He was arrested again last November for allegedly inciting violence on social media after the October 7 attack by Hamas. The Israeli military said she was suspected of inciting violence and terrorism. The arrest appears to be related to an Instagram post from an account in Tamimi’s name that referenced Adolf Hitler and vowed to “slaughter” Israelis.
Tamimi’s family maintained that Ahed did not write the post, but argued that it was one of several accounts bearing her name falsely, or that her account had been hacked, which had happened in the past.
Their daughter’s possible release on Tuesday comes at a critical time: her lawyer said Israel planned to take Tamimi into administrative detention three weeks after her arrest.
