Six more Israelis – five women and a teenager – kidnapped by Hamas in the October 7 attack were released tonight and handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Israeli armed forces (IDF) announced.

As a result, the number of hostages released today stands at eight, after a 21-year-old woman and a 40-year-old woman were released earlier.

Majid al-Ansari, spokesman for Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, clarified that three of the six Israeli hostages released tonight have dual citizenship: one with Mexican, one with Uruguayan and one with Russian. In his post on the X platform (formerly Twitter), he also underlined that the two Russian-Israeli women who were released yesterday Wednesday should be included in today’s tally.

Hamas had declared yesterday that the release of the two Russian-Israelis was done as a sign of gratitude for “(Russian President) Vladimir Putin’s support for the Palestinian issue.”

The release of 30 Palestinians is now expected, which, according to the representative of Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, are seven women and 23 minors.

Since Friday, at least 10 Israeli hostages – women and children – have been released every afternoon in exchange for the release of three times the number of Palestinian prisoners.

Mexico’s foreign minister confirms the release of a hostage with Mexican citizenship

At the same time, he assures that efforts will continue to free another hostage with Mexican citizenship, Orion Hernandez, who remains captive in the Gaza Strip.
