The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stressed on Friday that Hamas had not agreed to release more hostages, violating the terms of the truce, and that Israel remained committed to achieving its goals of eliminating the organization.

One hour before the scheduled end of the ceasefire, at 07:00 am (local and Greek time), Israel announced that it had intercepted a rocket fired from Gaza. At the same time, air raid sirens sounded again in areas of Israel near the Palestinian enclave, the army added.

The Israeli military has confirmed that its warplanes are striking Hamas targets in Gaza.

So far Hamas has not commented or claimed responsibility for the launches.

Palestinian media reported Israeli air force and artillery strikes against the Gaza Strip after the ceasefire ended. As a doctor at the Ahli Arab Hospital said, two children were killed in an airstrike in Gaza City.

At the same time, according to the Hamas government, six people were killed in an Israeli airstrike against Rafah, in the southern part of the enclave, near the border with Egypt.

The statement of the Office of the Prime Minister of Israel

“The terrorist organization Hamas-ISIS has breached the framework. It has failed to fulfill its obligation to release all female hostages today and has fired rockets at Israeli civilians.

“As the fighting resumes, we emphasize: The government of Israel is committed to achieving the goals of the war: freeing the hostages, eliminating Hamas, and ensuring that Gaza never again poses a threat to the people of Israel.”

The ceasefire expired on Friday morning after Israel and Hamas failed to reach an agreement on a list of abductees to be released on Friday night. According to sources in Israel, an agreement was reached on Thursday to return 10 women to Israel on Friday and Hamas was to send a list of hostages for release. Foreign sources insisted on Friday morning that talks were underway to renew the deal.
The seven-day truce, which began on November 24 and has been extended twice, allowed the exchange of dozens of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza in exchange for dozens of Palestinian prisoners, while facilitating the entry of humanitarian aid into the Palestinian enclave.
