Economy Minister Robert Habeck has canceled his trip to Dubai for the COP28 global climate conference at the request of Chancellor Olaf Soltz as consultations on tackling the fiscal crisis are rushed.

A representative of the Ministry of Economy stated late yesterday (Sunday) evening that, following the decision of the Federal Constitutional Court which finds unconstitutional the channeling of funds to the Climate Fund which came from emergency borrowing for the consequences of the pandemic, the presence of Mr. Hambek in Berlin was deemed necessary to further advance the debate on the 2024 budget. This was done in consultation with Chancellor Olaf Solz and at his request.

Mr Hambeck’s participation in the Conference was scheduled for Tuesday, but the coalition government’s budget consultations are currently being held in a tripartite round, with Olaf Solz (SPD), Robert Hambeck (Greens) and Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP).

However, the Minister of Economy stated that he was optimistic about reaching an agreement, clarifying that in order for the proposal to be approved by the Bundestag, there should be an agreement by Wednesday’s cabinet meeting.
