Tangier-based film production company Kasbah Films has secured a number of US and UK projects to shoot in Morocco.
Among other things, the film “Lords of War”, a sequel to “Lord of War”, starring Nicolas Cage as a notorious arms dealer, will be shot in Morocco.
Kasbah Films’ Karim Debag spoke to Variety on the sidelines of the Marrakech Film Festival about “Lords of War,” which is expected to begin shooting in March for about 40 days. Locations in Morocco are being sought at this stage, he said.
“We are trying to cover four or five African countries like Libya, Egypt, Senegal and Mali and several countries in the Middle East and we have almost found everything in Morocco,” said the veteran producer.
He clarified that due to strikes by the Writers Guild, WGA and SAG-AFTRA, the project was “frozen” for eight months and stressed that the production will benefit from the tax reduction incentive, which is now at 30%.
The “Lords of War” crew will consist of 400 to 500 members, around 100 of whom will be mainly from the US and the UK. “The members of the film crew in Morocco have been trained so well in recent years thanks to all the great films that have been shot here and also thanks to the great Schools that have opened and helped to strengthen this younger generation,” he said.
