Munich airport is operating with problems and delays, while traffic on the motorways is difficult due to the slippery road surface
Four people – among them a child – lost their lives today in areas that have been particularly affected by the bad weather. With problems and delays operating Munich airportwhile driving on the highways is difficult due to the slippery road surface.
Two men were killed on a motorway in southern Bavaria when the car they were traveling in crashed into a lorry due to ‘freezing’ rain, which made the road extremely slippery. The same phenomenon caused many more traffic accidents in the Munich area, but of limited severity.
In a semi-mountainous region of Saxony, a bus crashed into a snow plow and then into a tree, killing a 10-year-old boy who was on the bus. The driver and another passenger were seriously injured. In Baden-Württemberg a 57-year-old man failed to use the braking system in time and collided with a bus. He was fatally injured in the collision.
At Munich airport, which remained closed for most of the weekend, flights were suspended again today due to ice. The flight schedule remains limited, resulting in long hours of inconvenience for hundreds of passengers.
