The Israeli army is targeting areas mainly in southern Gaza, however, heavy shelling is also taking place in the north.
Wounds on more than 400 targets in Gaza carried out by Israeli army yesterday, Thursday the highest number reported since the ceasefire with Hamas ended a week ago.
“Approximately 450 targets were struck by air, sea and land as IDF troops operating in the Gaza Strip continued extensive fighting with terrorists,” the IDF said in a statement. “Troops continue to operate to locate and destroy underground tunnel shafts, weapons and additional terrorist infrastructure.”
After the first phase of the ground operation focused on the northern sector of the Gaza Strip, the Israeli army announced that it is expanding its action in the south, where nearly two million civilians have fled and are looking for safe areas again.
According to the IDF, the troops also led Israeli jets to “kill numerous terrorists in a series of precision strikes lasting two hours” in Khan Younis in southern Gaza.
In a separate operation carried out overnight, the Israeli Navy struck dozens of sites used by Hamas naval forces in central and southern Gaza, the IDF said.
At least 17,177 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza since October 7, a spokesman for the Hamas-controlled health ministry said on Thursday. About 46,000 people have been injured and the majority of the injured are children, women and the elderly, he added.
Bombardment continues in Jambaliya
Meanwhile, the Israeli army continues to shell the Jabaliya refugee camp in northern Gaza, as Israeli tanks advance towards the center of the camp.
Journalist Hossam Shabat, who reports in northern Gaza, said in a recorded message: “We are surrounded by tanks firing smoke and fire bombs at the Jabaliya camp where 15,000 displaced people live. For more than three hours, the violent shelling has not stopped and ambulances cannot get here: All hospitals in northern Gaza are out of service. Fires broke out in several buildings in the camp, terrorizing thousands of displaced people who fled their homes to seek shelter in UN schools.”
UN: Fewer trucks enter northern Gaza
Just 69 trucks carrying humanitarian aid entered Gaza from Egypt on Thursday, less than half the daily average during last week’s Israel-Hamas truce, the United Nations aid agency said.
Meanwhile, only 61,000 liters of fuel came in on Thursday, well below the average of 110,000 liters during the temporary ceasefire.
