Tornadoes and severe storms they hit yesterday, Saturday, the US state of Tennessee costing life to at least six people and causing serious damage to homes as well as power outages, according to authorities.

Three of the deaths occurred in a northern suburb of Nashville, the capital of this southeastern United States state.

The Nashville Office of Emergency Management released photos on social media showing uprooted trees and damaged homes.

“Unfortunately we can confirm that there are three deaths due to the bad weather at Nesbitt Lane,” the office announced via the X platform.

A tornado touched down in Clarksville, in the northern part of the state, also causing casualties.

“We can confirm that three people have died, two adults and one child,” Montgomery County officials said in a statement, adding that “23 people are being treated.”

The first teams of rescuers “are still in the search and rescue phase after this disaster”, the authorities announced and asked the residents not to go out on the streets without reason.

Moreover power has been cut to about 86,000 households in the state, according to the specialty website PowerOutage.us.
