The private jet skidded off the runway and ended up in an adjacent field, thankfully with no injuries.
The operation of the airport was suspended around 18:30 (local time, 19:30 Greek time) and began to be restored gradually late on Wednesday night.
“Due to the bad weather of the last few days, there is a lot of moisture on the ground. An aircraft is stuck,” the airport management said in a statement issued around 22:00 (local time, 23:00 Greek time). Geneva and other parts of Switzerland have experienced heavy rainfall in recent days.
The airport runway was reopened after the intervention of the fire brigade.
Geneva Airport is the second largest in Switzerland, after Zurich, and is a major hub for low-cost carrier Easy Jet.
