Six people were remanded in custody during the night, four of them in absentiathe Danish public prosecutor’s office announced today, following a police operation that prevented a terrorist attack.

Although police have not released any details about the planned attack, they indicated late Thursday that their business it was not directly related to the arrest on the same day in Germany and the Netherlands of four alleged Hamas members who were believed to be planning attacks against Jewish targets in Europe.

Israel announced yesterday that the suspects arrested in Denmark were acting “in the name of Hamas”, but this was not confirmed by the Danish authorities.

“Six people were remanded until January 9, of which four were in absentia. One person has been released,” the Danish public prosecutor’s office clarified in X.

The Danish judiciary can request the pre-trial detention of a person in absentia, which allows an international arrest warrant to be issued against him. The recourse to this procedure suggests that the four people involved may be abroad.

The process took place behind closed doors and no other information has been released by the authorities.

Danish police said yesterday that they had arrested three people.

“It was about a group that was preparing a terrorist actFleming Dreser, head of operations at the Danish Intelligence Services (PET), said during a press conference.

Danish news agency Ritzau and state broadcaster DR said the arrests were linked to the Loyal to Familia organized crime gang, which has been outlawed in the country.

According to these two media outlets, two men and a young woman were arrested. One of the men was released.

Moreover yesterday three men were arrested in Germany and a fourth in the Netherlands on the charge that they had begun to organize an arms depot in Berlin. There “they would keep the weapons in view of the preparation of possible terrorist attacks against Jewish targets in Europe,” as German federal prosecutors said in a statement.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said yesterday that Danish security forces “prevented an attack aimed at killing innocent civilians on European soil”.

“The terrorist organization Hamas is working non-stop and in an exterminating manner to spread its murderous operations in Europe and thus poses a threat to the internal security of these countries,” he added.
