Turkish authorities have arrested 304 people suspected of links to the Islamic State group in operations in 32 provinces, Interior Minister Ali Gerlikaya said today.

Most of the suspects were arrested in the country’s three largest cities, Ankara, Istanbul and Izmir. Gerlikaya said in his post on Platform X.

THE “Operation Heroes-34” was conducted simultaneously across the country, he added.

“We will not allow any terrorist” to threaten the peace and unity of our people. “We will continue our fight with the intensive efforts of our security forces,” he said, posting images from the operation showing police raiding apartments and buildings and driving suspects into vehicles.

The Islamic State it controlled a third of Iraq and Syria at its height in 2014. Although defeated, its fighters continue to carry out attacks.

He has committed various attacks in Turkeyincluding one in an Istanbul nightclub on January 1, 2017, in which 39 people were killed.

In recent weeks, the Turkish authorities have intensified operations against the Islamic State and Kurdish fighters, after the latter detonated bombs near government buildings in Ankara on October 1.

Turkey frequently conducts operations inside its territory and in northern Iraq against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which it describes as a terrorist organization.
