Norwegian cruise ship Maud remains in North Sea after storm, flooding and blackout yesterday
The Norwegian cruise ship MS Maud remains in the North Sea after heavy seas last night which shattered windows on the ship’s bridge and caused a temporary blackout.
As the Danish authorities announced today, two tugs help keep the cruiser steady while rough seas continue.
THE266 passengers and 131 crew members are safe, a spokesman for Denmark’s Joint Rescue Coordination Center (DJRC) told Reuters.
“They just need to take it easy storm and they do it by sailing against the wind,” the spokesman said.

The vessel was sailing at a distance of approx 200 km from the west coast of Denmark and 330 km from the east coast of Britain when water entered the bridge, resulting in a power outage.
The ship’s main engine was still running, which made it possible to manually navigate the ship from the engine room.
Data from vessel tracking website Vesselfinder.com today showed that MS Maud has barely moved since last night. It was not immediately clear where the vessel would head next.
MS Maud, owned by HX cruise line, a unit of Norway’s Hurtigruten Group, sailed from Flore, Norway yesterday and was expected in Tilbury, Britain today.
Hurtigruten Group was not immediately available for comment. Yesterday, the company announced that the Maud had suffered a “temporary blackout” and that the crew and passengers were safe.
