Dozens of Western warships are concentrated in the wider Middle East region, after the Houthi attacks on commercial vessels. As the map shows, this is the imposing strike force called “Guardian of Prosperity” who will guard the trade, and strike the Shiite rebels if necessary.

This is an updated map of warships operating or soon to operate in the Red Sea, Gulf of Oman, Gulf of Aden, Persian Gulf and Arabian Sea, with the American presence dominating.

The map shows 46 warships, two submarines and one dry cargo ship of the US Navy, among them the Greek MEKO-class frigate.

Greece will participate with a MEKO-class frigate, with a development area on the coast of Yemen in the part that includes the Red Sea, as well as the Gulf of Aden. This is exactly the area controlled by the Houthis where the multiple attacks against commercial ships have taken place so far, explained SKAI’s military analyst Yannis Paliouras.

The goal is to prevent attacks by pro-Iranian rebel forces, and the safe passage of cargo ships and tankers through the area to minimize the impact on product transportation costs to avoid product price hikes on the world market.
