The oldest man in Italy breathed his last at the age of 111 years and 133 days. This is Tripoli Giannini, the second oldest person in Europe, after the French Andre Ludwig, who is 75 days older.

The very old Italian known as “Tripolino”, died at his home near Livorno, Tuscany, on New Year’s Eve, aged 111.

In fact, he himself stated that the secrets of his long life were light meals, not having too much stress and not smoking.

Giannini was born in 1912 and lived through two world wars and two pandemics

He believed he was immortal

A post on social media was published by his son who wrote: “He believed he was immortal … instead, at 9.30am on San Silvestro (New Year’s Eve), my father died. He was 111 years and 133 days old – a record! He will accompany his wife, my mother, who has been waiting for him for over 40 years.”

Sardinia has been designated as one of the five regions in the world that have a high concentration of centenarians.

Nevertheless, the Italian city with the most people over 100 is Genoa in Liguria.
