France: At least 50,000 homeless children in the country

by

“More than 50,000 children live in shelters, makeshift shelters or on the streets in France,” according to the Never Homeless collective, which has been protesting against poor housing for minors in Lyon, in central France.

On the occasion of the mobilization organized, the specific organization based in Lyon, UNICEF France, a union of parents of students and the collective CAU, called on the authorities and the candidates for the presidential elections to act against the deterioration of the situation of homeless minors.

“The state has developed unprecedented means to maintain 200,000 accommodation spaces and put an end to seasonal accommodation management,” the CAU said in a statement, adding: “Unfortunately, due to the social and health crisis (…), there are still people on the street, including families and children. “

In a statement released in November 2020, the Abbé Pierre Foundation counted 300,000 homeless people of all ages in France, more than double the number in 2012 and with an increasing percentage of women and children.
