Foreign media have their hands on 900 pages of documents released on Wednesday night before publishing the names.
The names of several people possibly connected to Jeffrey Epstein were released on Wednesday by the New York court cited by the BBC.
In these resounding names are included among others former US President Bill Clinton and Prince Andrew, as well as dozens of other names known in their field.
The names of minors have remained sealed
In particular, the foreign media have in their hands 900 pages of documents that were released on Wednesday night before proceeding with the publication of the names. The BBC notes that some of the 187 people previously known as “J Doe” in court documents have been identified, but other names they have remained sealed as they belong to child victims.
The publication includes references to Johanna Sjoberg, who claimed that Prince Andrew grabbed her breast while sitting on a couch inside Epstein’s Manhattan apartment in 2001. Buckingham Palace has previously said that Epstein’s secretary’s claims are “categorically untrue”.
Clinton has said he “knows nothing about Epstein’s crimes”
Former US President Bill Clinton is also mentioned in the court documents. According to the records, Mrs. Sjoberg testified that Epstein once told her that Clinton “likes little girls”. It is noted that he had a relationship with a 22-year-old intern at the White House while he was president of the USA.
The records include testimony from Maxwell confirming that Clinton traveled on Epstein’s private jet, but she did not know how many times. However, he himself has denied it.
Mr. Clinton flew in Epstein’s plane on humanitarian trips to Africa in the early 2000s and at the time praised Epstein as a dedicated philanthropist, though he said he later cut ties with him.
When reached for comment, Mr. Clinton’s representatives referred to a statement he issued in 2019 saying that “knows nothing” about Epstein’s crimes.
Other names on the list according to the Guardian include:
- CIA Director Williams Burns,
- Kathryn Rumler, White House Counsel under Barack Obama,
- the left-wing professor and activist Noam Chomsky,
- billionaire venture capitalist Reid Hoffman;
- Lawrence Summers, former president of Harvard and director of the National Economic Council under Obama;
- Woody Allen,
- Bill Gates,
- Thorbjørn Jagland, former Prime Minister of Norway,
- former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak
- and former Barclays chairman Jess Staley.
Other names revealed include:
- billionaire Glenn Dubin and his former private chef Rinaldo Rizzo,
- David Copperfield,
- Tony Figueroa,
- Limited Brands founder and former Victoria’s Secret CEO Lex Wexner;
- and Epstein accusers such as Johanna Sjoberg and Annie Farmer.
According to the BBC, the disclosure of the names is part of a defamation lawsuit from 2015. Virginia Giuffre, also known as Virginia Roberts, had taken legal action against convicted trafficker Ghislaine Maxwellof Epstein’s close friend who basically supplied him and his friends with minors.
Some of the names have already been publicly named in foreign media reports. More came to light in 2021 during the trial of Maxwell, who was convicted of human trafficking and is serving a 20-year sentence in federal prison. But it is emphasized that the names of the accusers who were under the age of 18 will remain anonymous.
CNN reported that the documents may not contain major revelations, but even the slightest new detail about Epstein’s activities could be fodder for new lawsuits.
Clinton’s name, among others, reportedly appears dozens of times in court documents, although the former president is not charged with any crime.
Holly Baltz, investigative editor at the Palm Beach Post, told CNN on Tuesday that new details may be revealed.
Even if the names on the list turn out to be well-known, he said, it may shed light on their exact relationship to Epstein and Maxwell.
Maxwell, in her testimony, said she had once been on Epstein’s island in the Caribbean when Prince Andrew visited her. “There were no girls on the island. Neither girls, nor women, except for staff working at home. Girls mean – I assume you are asking minors – but there was no other woman except some cooks and cleaners.’
