Former Paralympian Oscar Pistorius has been paroled almost 11 years after murdering his partner Reeva Steenkamp.

He will be confined to his home, not allowed to speak to the media and drink alcohol.

The now 37-year-old man shot Reeva Steenkamp multiple times in 2013, claiming he thought she was a burglar.

He was finally convicted of murder in 2015 and will continue to live in strict conditions until his sentence expires in 2029 as under South African law, all offenders are eligible for parole after serving half of their total sentence. which for Pistorius was finally set at 13 years and five months in 2017.

Reeva Steenkamp’s mother, June Steenkamp, ​​told the BBC: “We have always known that parole is part of the South African legal system.”

“There can be no justice if your man never comes back,” said her mother Riva Steenkamp

“There can never be justice if your loved one never returns and no amount of time served by the perpetrator will bring Riva back. We, who remain behind, are the ones who are serving a life sentence”

He added: “My only wish is to be allowed to live out my last years in peace is to remain at the Rebecca Steenkamp Foundation, to carry on Reeva’s legacy.”

Riva Steenkamp, ​​who was 29 when she breathed her last, was a law graduate and model who also worked as a TV presenter. In fact, he had also appeared in the well-known reality show ‘Tropika Island of Treasure’.

She had planned to start a law firm to help abused women after she graduated.

The 29-year-old had been in a three-month relationship with Pistorius when he shot her four times in his home in the early hours of February 14, 2013, and she died almost instantly.
