An Israeli border police officer was killed and other colleagues were wounded today during a raid by Israeli forces on the Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank, which also killed six Palestinians, police said.

“He was in a military vehicle that was hit by an explosive device,” the Israeli police said in a statement.

A helicopter participated in the rescue operation by providing them with cover fire, the Israeli military said, adding that it had targeted a “terrorist group that was flying explosives and endangering our forces.” A number of terrorists were killed.”

The Israeli raid in Jenin also killed six Palestinians, according to the Palestinian Authority’s health ministry. Four of the dead were siblings, according to family members.

Although Israel said its aircraft fired on Palestinian gunmen who attacked Israeli soldiers, the Palestinian ministry said the strike was aimed at people who had gathered at the site, and eyewitnesses said the attack occurred as Israeli forces were withdrawing.

“One of the witnesses was decapitated,” Mujahid Nazal, a Palestinian doctor who rushed to provide first aid, told Reuters. “It appears that the missile hit him directly. Others were mutilated. A seventh person was seriously injured and taken away by ambulance,” he added.

Ahmed Suleiman, another eyewitness, pointed out that “the airstrike took place at the entrance to Jenin in an area called the Triangle of Martyrs. You can see the effects of the missile. Blood and human parts scattered everywhere.”
